This is all based on LDL being able to penetrate the endothelium. If that’s true then why don’t we see plaque in the veins? If you want real science based answers then please read “The Clot Thickens” by Dr. Malcolm Kendrick. He has excellent data and logical explanations for the formation of plaque plus he’s witty and enjoyable to read.

All these nutritional debates confusing everyone is going to keep getting more confusing for everyone. Focus on eating whole foods, less oils and more whole form fats for cooking if used. Indians for thousands of years have been eating the way they have because it's working. If you're looking for concrete proof of which diet makes you feel better, look to the indian cuisine. Then, venture into eating some meat if you're deficient in b vitamins or heme iron

Yes, 99% of the health and fitness influencers on social media's, does not know how to properly collect and interpret data from research studies. And out of those few that does, even a significantly percentage of these people let their personal bias get in the way and often arrive at a sqewed, if not totally wrong, conclusion as well. So if you are sharp on these details, you're already ahead of 99% of your "competetion"! 😉

The same crap over and over and over for decades and decades. Search for "replication crisis" and enjoy the ride. The guests with the more "certitude" are the ones to run from fast. ignoring confounding variables such as oxidized ldl, Insulin resistance, inflammation, stress, etc. are usually swept aside. Thanks to you Dave for being qurious and keeping on ansking question and not giving up until you find them. We often start with a hypothesis based on domain knowledge (I am in geodetic landsurverying with long term monitoring as speciality). My clients often go in with the notion - this has happened, this must be the cause. I always ask - do you know what influences what? Often they don’t. My answer is. - Look at the raw measument data, they tell the story of how X Y Z was created. Out of that we may conclude if the certanty of the X Y Z. Did the obejct move or has the measurments shifted due to fixed points having been moved. Ect. When you do a study you go in with setup to find out if a hypothesis holds. The other way is to design a study that measures things as accurately as possible, then you start to look for correlations and probable causation I guess funding is an issue here since there is no clear outcome.

Great point around 20:00! All the young protein-chugging weight lifters think that if they just keep lifting and chugging protein when they're old, they'll live forever without the dreaded sarcopenia. They don't yet realize that exercise depends on healthy blood vessels. When your blood vessels stiffen and clog, eating more artery-clogging steak won't help you keep your muscle. I looked into longevity of bodybuilders, and it's NOT good. They may not suffer from sarcopenia, but they die of something else, like cardiovascule disease, long before sarcopenia becomes a concern. Case in point: Charles Poliquin. I found a couple bodybuilders who have lived into old age, and both gave up animal protein in favor of plant-based as they aged.

Bodybuilders die from steroid abuse which leads to heart and other problems etc. not from red meat. Red meat does not clog arteries, you just parrot something you heard on tv. But it has no basis in reality.

Just listened 4 hrs after posting, Simon. Having followed your podcasts and read your book the interview was doubly interesting. My dad was a biochemist (LDH mechanistic research and I ‘followed’ (in a sense as you did of a sort) as an MD in internal medicine. A very refreshing dissemination of your dad’s expertise and wisdom. Thanks.

11:50 "basically say the big three then are apob, LPa you're going to do that once and triglycerides and if you have those three you can really predict your risk of atherosclerosis. Yep , you pass lipids 101 if you understand that."

Yeh - I would say Blood pressure, ApoB, LP(a) for cvd risk and then triglycerides, fasting BG, Hba1c and WC for metabolic health.

Metabolic diseases play a big role in the outcome data as well. And then there's the issue of lp(a) concentration. Dave doesn't seem to have the full overview, of all risk modifying factors, based on his statement/question in this video...

LP(a) ep coming your way in the next few weeks

@@TheProofWithSimonHill Just make sure you make a point out of emphasizing, that people with a very high lp(a), like +300 nmol/L. Are currently getting totally screwed by doctors, who advocate using maximum doses of statins(usually Atorvastatin or Rosuvastatin) as the primary treatment for these patients. A 25% increase in lp(a) using a 10mg dose of rosuvastatin, is not something to be overlooked in a patient with a natural +500 nmol/L concentration measured in their blood. But the sad thing is, that economics play a big role in this, as better drugs like PCSK9 inhibitors ae too expensive and thus not covered by insurance in most if not all countries on planet earth. And forthcoming lp(a) targeting drugs, will also be very expensive and thus not covered by insurance for these patients as well. And only for secondary treatment, meaning.....you may be offered it, if you're lucky and survived your first heart attack! Not an optimal situation for these patients, to say the least! 🤨👎 😉
